What’s the word?
I’ve been working on SUPER by Cope for a month now. This was the last thing on my to do list. Each month, we will donate to a Black cause. Simple enough, right? All we have to do is pick one. And I had a few in mind already before our recent uprising. But for our first month it’s hard to choose because there are so many different ways the Black community could use our funds right now. My thought process was all over the place as I gathered information and saw how we were being treated at these protests.
Do I want to donate to an organization? (Do I trust organizations?)
Do I want to donate to bail funds for the protesters? (What if the protests end before I launch?)
I really really want to donate to the family fund of Breonna Taylor but what if they close the GoFundMe? (Can they close GoFundMes? DO they close GoFundMes? *Googles*)
I decided we should go with the last option because though the family is well over their goal, I wanted to make another contribution to those directly affected by this terrible loss. Also, if at any point they close the GoFundMe, I can still send the money directly to her sister’s Cash App which was how they were first collecting funds.
This month’s featured item(s) are the By Who? Trucker hats and dad hats. We’re sending all proceeds from purchases made to Breonna’s family fund every Sunday until the end of June. If you’d like your name to be mentioned in the donations on her family’s GoFundMe, please write that in the notes and I will add your name. Otherwise you will remain anonymous. You will receive an email letting you know when it is sent. If anything changes you will also be contacted.
It’s 5:55 AM on Breonna Taylor’s birthday as I’m writing this. Happy birthday. Rest peacefully. You will not be forgotten. Neither will George Floyd and Ahmaud Arbery. Change is on the way. I believe that. I'm tired. In every way imaginable. I’ve been up all night. I’m going to sleep.
If you have any questions or concerns please @ or DM us anywhere @SUPERbyCope or email us at Info@SUPERbyCope.com. We’re always looking for recommendations on where to donate.
